1st Place Team, L to R: Megan Piller, Graham Kupsaw, Kaili Yap,
Zach Taylor, Hannah VanDress, Samuel Bejarano, and Dr. Eric B. Dent

We recently co-sponsored our 3rd Annual High School Ethics Case Competition in conjunction with Florida Gulf Coast University’s Lutgert College of Business and Lee County Schools.

Teams of students from local high schools grappled with a real-life, ethical dilemma, where a college intern discovered her clients were billed for more time and at a higher rate than they should have been. Each team reached a consensus and presented their solution in a very professional manner. Dr. Eric B. Dent, our Endowed Chair Professor of Ethics at FGCU chaired the event.

The winning team was facilitated by Bishop Verot teacher James Orr and consisted of students Kaili Yap, Hannah VanDress, Megan Piller, Graham Kupsaw, and Samuel Bejarano from Bishop Verot High School and Zach Taylor from Crosspointe Academy.

Uncommon Friends Foundation board member Brian Rist of Storm Smart Industries was the event’s keynote speaker and provided $500 scholarships to each of the students on the winning team.

It was a great day of ethics discussions. Congratulations to all who participated!

High school students interested in participating in the 4th Annual FGCU High School Ethics Case Competition in 2020 should contact Dr. Dent at edent@fgcu.edu or (239) 590-7162.
