Scholarships are awarded to students, veterans, and single parents in Lee, Charlotte, Collier, Glades, and Hendry Counties.
Several $2,000 tuition scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors in Glades and Hendry Counties who will be attending Florida Gulf Coast University.
Florida Prepaid College Foundation Scholarship
Uncommon Friends Foundation and Florida Prepaid College Foundation cooperate to provide scholarship for two years of state college tuition and local fees to select freshman and sophomore high school students who contract to succeed in high school, stay free of drugs and crime, and fulfill other scholarship conditions.
Special Recognition Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to someone who has a financial need, the desire and potential to succeed in school, and possesses positive character traits. It may be used for books or a portion of educational costs and is not for the current term.
High Tech Center Scholarship
This scholarship is to assist with the tuition, books and supplies for one term at a High Tech Center. There are no age requirements. This award is not for the current term and is to be used for expenses not covered by other scholarships or grants.
Uncommon Friends Foundation is dedicated to promoting lifelong learning, a sense of purpose, unending self-improvement, and a commitment to helping others. This scholarship is for students matriculated in a program leading to a degree in education.
Single Parent Scholarship – $1,000
The Single Parent Scholarship helps single parents further their education to gain skills to enter the workforce. This scholarship is focused on single parents who have overcome extraordinary obstacles. This award is not for the current term.
The Lee County Bar Association Scholarship – $2,000
This scholarship is for students matriculated in a program leading to a degree in law to assist with the tuition, books and supplies at any Florida college/university. It will recognize the student’s exemplary achievements in high school and performance in its Mock Trial competition. The scholarship recipient is chosen by the Lee County Bar Association.
This scholarship is awarded to a Veteran who has a financial need, the desire and potential to succeed in school, and possesses positive character traits. It may be used for books or a portion of educational costs and is not for the current term. This scholarship is not age specific.
PACE Center for Girls – $1,000
PACE Center for Girls nominates a current student for this scholarship. The student must have completed the Uncommon Friends Character Education Curriculum and demonstrate the character traits of the Uncommon Friends, including loyalty, friendship, honesty and integrity.
Nomination forms are emailed to social service agencies, schools and colleges. Scholarships are awarded annually. To be included on this mailing list, please email email@example.com.
Nominees must submit a completed application form, an essay on their reason for applying for the scholarship and how they feel they emulate the traits of the Uncommon Friends, and a digital color photograph. These must be accompanied by a letter from a sponsoring organization such as a social service agency, school counselor, teacher, or principal.
Application packets must be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than April 1, 2016. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Photos and essays will not be returned.
Each application is reviewed and evaluated by the members of the Scholarship Committee based on the specific criteria required, funds requested and funds available for disbursement. After all applications are reviewed, the Committee will meet to discuss and approve the scholarship awards.
Notification of Awards
Recipients of each scholarship will be notified by the Foundation within 45 days of application deadline. Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the Uncommon Friends Foundation Annual Dinner, in the Foundation’s newsletter entitled, “Hello Friends” and on the Uncommon Friends Foundation website.
Payment of Awards
Requests for payment must be received by December 31 of the year awarded. Checks are made payable to the school and not to the individual recipient. We will mail your scholarship award directly to your college/university once we receive verification of your registration. Please have this information emailed to email@example.com or mailed to P.O. Box 811, Fort Myers, FL 33902. The recipient’s social security number must be included with this information.
Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the Uncommon Friends Scholarship Committee. Photos and essays will not be returned. All applicants will be notified of their award status through their sponsoring agencies or by the Uncommon Friends Foundation.
